Music Review | Simran | Sachin-Jigar

Kangana Ranaut is back with another solo movie after Queen. The reason I am comparing is because Queen had beautiful music. Hence, it is only fair if I have higher/equal expectations from this album. One other reason for this is that Queen was composed by Amit Trivedi and Simran is composed by Sachin-Jigar, both of my favourite music composers.

Album Release Date: 25th August 2017

Lagdi Hai Thaai
Singers: Guru Randhawa, Jonita Gandhi
Lyrics: Vayu
This song is on the similar lines of London Thumakda (Queen) but on a milder tone. It is not too much in-your-face. I like how there is a blend between Punjabi and Hindi (with Gujarati accent). Jonita Gandhi shows her versatility once again by singing in lower scales and having that Gujarati accent.

Pinjra Tod Ke
Singers: Sunidhi Chauhan
Lyrics: Priya Saraiya
As the title already suggests, this song talks about being free. A template music with a template theme for a song. Nothing extraordinary. I would expect a song about being free to be more empowering, but the tempo is on the slower side.

Meet
Singers: Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Priya Saraiya
This is that type of song if playing, I wouldn't mind listening but I would not play it myself. It is interesting how a lot of the lines in the song are offbeat (starting one or half beat before or after the rhythm)

Single Rehne De / Majja Ni Life
Singers: Shalmali Kholgade, Divya Kumar
Lyrics: Vayu
This is one hell of a cringy song I have listened to as a gujju. That tone, the verbiage and that accent - to the point. In my defense I can argue that not every gujju speaks like that. But this song is not about every gujju, it is just about Simran. Shalmali, though being a Marathi, gets all the gujju nuances to the point. The song as a whole is okayish. Listen to it if you are missing some gujjuness in your life.

Simran
Singers: Jigar Saraiya
Lyrics: Priya Saraiya
If Ala Barfi (Barfi!) was about a female character, this would be it. That yodeling, retro beats and harmonica fit perfectly sum up Barfi's character in the movie. Barfi? I meant Simran. But this song blends in so well with Barfi's character and the theme of the movie. Doesn't matter, it is about Simran - accept the fact.

Another dud album after A Gentleman - SSR, I am still awaiting for a comeback by Sachin-Jigar this year. Nonetheless, the only decent song of this album is Lagdi Hai Thaai.

That is all I have for this album now. I hope you found this review useful. If you did then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!!
