Music Review | Raaz Reboot | Jeet Gannguli, Sangeet-Siddharth Haldipur

If you enjoy watching YouTube videos more than reading a blog post, you can check out my video review for the music album of Raaz Reboot here:

If not, read on! The page is all yours.

It is an established fact that songs from Emraan Hashmi's movies are always a great treat to ears. Add to that three songs by Arijit Singh - DOUBLE BONUS! Raaz has been the most successful horror movie franchise in Indian cinema. If not for their story then definitely for their music. So, without further ado, let's get into it and see if this album can make me fall in love ghosts or scares the shit out of me.

Lo Maan Liya
Singers: Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Kausar Munir
The song is sung so soft and mellow that you don't even realize it is heartbreak song. Some portion of lyrics might sound a bit creepy - "Lo maan liya dekha hi nahi, Tere kaandhe ka wo til". The only noteworthy sections of this otherwise mediocre song are the high note lines.

Singers: Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Rashmi Virag
The violin in the beginning gives a soothing feel. As much as I would love Arijit Singh to sing all the songs, unfortunately this one is not one of them. I think a wider range of the scale would've given this song a better feel. This song will be popular due to Emraan's screen presence and not Arijit's singing.

Music Composer: Sangeet-Siddharth Haldipur
Singers: K.K.
Lyrics: Kausar Munir
You've just broken up with your loved one, you don't know to express your mixed feelings of frustration, sadness, anger and loneliness. It is all chaos in your heart and head. That is what this song depicts. The lyrics have a deeper meaning if you interpret it accurately.

Yaad Hai Na
Singers: Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Kausar Munir
Finally an Arijit Singh song in the album that is 'loop' worthy. This song is a tribute to Jo Bhi Kasmein (Raaz - original). In fact a few times Arijit Singh sings 'Yaad Hai Na' has a striking resemblance to 'Kya Tumhe Yaad Hai' verse of the original song even though both the songs are completely different. The lead couple of the movie definitely like some rough action in bed with lyrics going - "Wo mere chhune pe chhil jaana tera". *too much information*

Hummein Tummein Jo Tha
Singers: Palak Muchhal, Papon
Lyrics: Rashmi Virag
This song is taken straight out of a Bengali song Ki Kore Bolbo Tomaye (translation: What Do I Tell You) which is also composed by Jeet Gannguli. So, no complaints of inspiration or plagiarism here. Though both the singers are same too but lyrics are different. This is a lyrics driven song. The guy thinks it's all over between them after putting in a ton of efforts. On the other hand, the girl says we are just a victim of the situation. She still loves him and wants him to take her away. Clear case of miscommunication and suppressed feelings. #StoryOfMyLife

Yaad Hai Na (Unplugged)
Singers: Jubin Nautiyal
Lyrics: Kausar Munir
This is truly an unplugged version with just guitar. If I close my eyes I can sense Jubin Nautiyal singing this song live. I don't think this is the kind of song to be listened with headphones on. Such songs are best enjoyed live audience. The only part I didn't like was the occasional offbeat notes. It seemed like he was trying too hard to fill in the void notes with music.

The Sound of Raaz
Singers: Jubin Nautiyal
Lyrics: Rashmi Virag
Can someone please turn the lights on for God's sake!!! With thunderstorms in the background, Jubin Nautiyal's powerful voice in this 90 second clip gave me chills down my spine. I was left waiting in anticipation that something was coming. I don't what is coming but I would love if they release the full version of this song. This song is actually the first three lines of Raaz Aankhein Teri.

Definitely not the best album of all the Emraan Hashmi movies. I've realized now that Arijit Singh is a rare commodity which not every music composer knows how to use him. Some songs made me emotional, some songs gave me chills. So here are my favourites from the album.

  1. Please stop reviewing bollywood music otherwise you will lose whatever credibility you're left with.
Music review should be based on the melody and the rendition foremost, not what the background is depicting, otherwise it becomes a film review rather than music review. Also, if the music resembles an old song doesn't necessarily make it not good. In case of this album, the melody and rendition of nearly all numbers are good quality.
My pick: Raaz Aankhein Teri, Yaad hai Na
    Both are beautifully sung.

    1. It is easy to go anonymous and comment your mind. Someone has rightly said - 'give a man a mask and he'll show his true self'. Nonetheless I really appreciate your opinion and thanks for letting me know about it. Just because you don't agree doesn't mean I am wrong. Everybody has different opinion of music. This is my opinion. If you are sharing your opinions on Bollywood music on any website, blog or social media I would love to follow that too.
