Music Review | Banjo | Vishal-Shekhar

If you enjoy watching YouTube videos more than reading a blog post, you can check out my video review for the music album of Banjo here: If not, read on! The page is all yours. This movie is called Banjo, which is a story of a banjo player in Mumbai. I am definitely expecting lot of use of banjo in the songs of this album. And with songs like Bappa and Rada , I am also expecting a lot of dhol beats which is trademark Mumbai ishtyle music. So, without further ado, let's get into it and see how this album fares. Listen on Saavn: Listen to Banjo-2016 on Saavn (Click on the song title to play it in YouTube) Bappa Singer: Vishal Dadlani Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya We've heard so many ganpati songs in Bollywood in the past and every one of them have a different take. This is a modern take on the ganpati devotion. Three things will catch your attention instantly in this song - 1. Banjo (lots of it), 2. Puneri/ Nashik dhol, 3. Vishal Dadlani singing "Ae r

Music Review | Raaz Reboot | Jeet Gannguli, Sangeet-Siddharth Haldipur

If you enjoy watching YouTube videos more than reading a blog post, you can check out my video review for the music album of Raaz Reboot here: If not, read on! The page is all yours. It is an established fact that songs from Emraan Hashmi's movies are always a great treat to ears. Add to that three songs by Arijit Singh - DOUBLE BONUS! Raaz has been the most successful horror movie franchise in Indian cinema. If not for their story then definitely for their music. So, without further ado, let's get into it and see if this album can make me fall in love ghosts or scares the shit out of me. Listen on Saavn: Listen to Raaz-Reboot-2016 on Saavn (Click on the song title to play it in YouTube) Lo Maan Liya Singers: Arijit Singh Lyrics: Kausar Munir The song is sung so soft and mellow that you don't even realize it is heartbreak song. Some portion of lyrics might sound a bit creepy - "Lo maan liya dekha hi nahi,  Tere kaandhe ka wo til". The only not

Curious Thoughts | Ep. 02 | Do too many cooks actually spoil the broth OR the more the merrier?

I've been reviewing music for almost six months now and more so now than ever before I started to realize how the trend and concept of music albums in movies have changed over years. There was a time when the popularity of music in movies was driven by music directors - Kishore Kumar, R. D. Burman, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, etc. Then came the era of actors and actresses driving the popularity of music in movies - Rajesh Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, etc. Slowly and gradually, playback singers started becoming a deciding factor for the success of music in movies - Kumar Sanu, Sonu Nigam, Shaan, etc. One obnoxious yet evergreen trend that has stuck with a lot of music in movies is 'item numbers' whose popularity has been driven by the likes of - Malaika Arora Khan and of late Sunny Leone. This trend has been so contagious that even top of the line actresses are using it these to revive their stagnant careers. Apart from the above mentioned trends, there is one particul

Music Review | Akira | Vishal-Shekhar

If you enjoy watching YouTube videos more than reading a blog post, you can check out my video review for the music album of Akira here: If not, read on! The page is all yours. This is a targeted action movie. Not setting expectations from it. But.... yeah there is an Arijit Singh song :P So, without further ado, let's get into it and see if this album can knock me out with it's songs or I will be able to escape. Listen on Saavn: Listen to Akira-2016 on Saavn (Click on the song title to play it in YouTube) Rajj Rajj Ke Singers: Nahid Afrin, Vishal Dadlani Lyrics: Kumaar What a beautiful singing to begin the song with. As soon as the chorus came, I started singing "Jee Karda, Ni Aaj Mera Jee Karda". Yes, The situation and the singing of this song is very much similar to Jee Karda (Badlapur). This could infact be the female version of that song. While that song was an 'angry' version of frustration, this song is a 'tired and hopeless

Music Review | Baar Baar Dekho | Jasleen Royal, Amaal Mallik, Arko, Bilal Saeed, Badshah

Image
From the list of the songs and artists involved, it looks like the album has a lot of diverse genre of music. I will only know once I listen to it.  So, without further ado, let's get into it and see if this album can make me listen to its songs baar baar or it's just a one-song wonder. Listen on Saavn: Listen to Baar-Baar-Dekho-2016 on Saavn (Click on the song title to play it in YouTube) Kho Gaye Hum Kahan Music : Jasleen Royal Lyrics : Prateek Kuhad Singers : Jasleen Royal & Prateek Kuhad This song made me feel detached from my surroundings. Guitar pickings is the only music to the song. Jasleen's baby voice makes the song innocent. In order to match her voice Prateek Kuhad also has sung it in a soft voice. The song talks about two people getting away into their imaginary world. The song ends with whistling tune which gives it a perfect ending as I can imagine both of them holding their hands and walking away from the camera (not sure how the actu

Music Review | A Flying Jatt | Sachin-Jigar

Image
I am not so much interested in the movie. The only reason I chose to listen to this album was Sachin-Jigar. I've been a big fan of their music. Do I have high expectations from this album? Well, it's conflicting - Tiger Shroff movie makes me question my expectation but I also know that Sachin-Jigar will not compromise.  So, without further ado, let's get into it and see if this album can set it's songs flying like the Jatt himself or falls flat on the ground Listen on Saavn: Listen to A-Flying-Jatt-2016 on Saavn (Click on the song title to play it in YouTube) A Flying Jatt - Title Track Lyrics : Vayu & Raftaar Singers : Raftaar, Mansheel Gujral, Tanishkaa  I like this song. Period. Now let's get into one thing that bothered me. I understand this song is dedicated to the kids (even though lyrics have alcohol references), but a 8-year old girl (Tanishkaa) singing the following lines is just wrong - "Flying jatt mera BFF hai,  Aur iklot
