Music Review | Dhanak | Tapas Relia

Image
I understand this is a late review from my side. In my defence, I heard one of the songs two days back and it compelled me to write this review. From what I saw in the trailers I am guessing there'll be a lot of folk music and lot of innocent lyrics since the movie is about two kids. Alright, without further ado, let's get started and see whether this album provides a "Rainbow (Dhanak)" of songs or are they monotonous.  Listen on Saavn Listen to Dhanak-2016 on Saavn Listen on YouTube Jeene Se Bhi Zyada Jeeyein Singer: Shivam Pathak First thing you'll notice is Shivam's voice in this song is similar to Sukhwinder Singh. It is not necessarily a bad thing. You are soon forgotten by that once you are brought to notice the fusion of folk rustic vocals along with fast-paced guitar strums. Chal Chalein Singers: Papon, Vibha Saraf, Shivam Pathak A failed attempt to try to many instruments in a single song. The percussion in the chorus cou

Music Review | Waiting | Mikey McCleary

I understand this is a late review from my side. In my defence, I heard this album few days back and the songs are so soothing that it compelled me to write this review. For those who don't know - Mikey Mccleary is a New Zealand songwriter, composer, performer, producer and director living in Mumbai, India since 2007. He is not a new face in Bollywood. He has previously given music in movies like Shaitan, Nautanki Saala, Margarita with a Straw and others. You may know his work from the popular Vodafone theme song - Little Things You Do For Me (click here to check it out) He has a YouTube channel called The Bartender where he fusions old Bollywood songs. I hope to get him featured on my blog for my "YouTube Discovery" series some day. Alright, without further ado, let's get started with what you've been "Waiting" for. (see what I did there) Listen on Saavn Listen to Waiting-2016 on Saavn Listen on YouTube Tu Hai Toh Main H

Music Review Catch Up | April-May 2016 | Nil Battey Sannata, One Night Stand, Traffic, 1920 London and Do Lafzon Ki Kahani

Over the last few months I've reviewed a lot of Bollywood music albums. However, I've missed a lot more albums that had really good music. So in my this series of posts I will catch up on those albums. Music reviews are time sensitive and hence my aim has always been to write music reviews as close to the music album release as possible. The reason being, once the movie approaches its release date, people tend to forget about music and care more about the movie. A lot of my readers asked me to review some albums which were released way back in April and hence this is my music review catch up for all the music albums released in April and May. Over a period of time, I wish to reduced the frequency of music review catch up and write a full-fledged reviews for every album released. So without further ado, let's get started! Pick of the individual albums are highlighted in RED Nil Battey Sannata Music Director: Rohan-Vinayak Listen on Saavn Listen to Nil-Battey-Sannat

Music Mention | Sairat (Marathi) | Ajay-Atul

Image
So last week I watched this movie after it created a lot of buzz in the film industry. The film is no doubt a realistic masterpiece. What caught my attention was its music. It's a three hour long movie but has only four songs. And those four songs are purely situational and takes the story forward Even though I understand and speak Marathi, it was difficult to interpret rural Marathi. Even with such difficulty in terms of language, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and the music. This is a special case of my music reviews. It is more of a music mention than a review. I liked something and I want others to be aware of it too (that sounds like the social media culture of this generation of kids :P) Yad Lagla (Gone Completely Insane) Singer: Ajay Gogavale Lyrics: Ajay-Atul Basically I am writing this post because of this song. Being a Marathi movie you don't expect such kind of song, that too for a movie depicting rural Maharashtra. This is a the first Indian film song to

Music Review | Udta Punjab | Amit Trivedi

Image
Finally..!! I've been waiting for this album for a long time. Why you may ask? Because Amit Trivedi. He is one of my favorite music composers. What I really like is that it takes a couple of repeated listening to truly understand the feel of the song and its musical intricacies. My review below will be unbiased by the fact that I am a Amit Trivedi fan  and will be biased towards good music. *fingers crossed* Mehh! I know good music follows below this. Listen to Udta-Punjab-2016 on Saavn *2 hours and 3 listenings later* Chitta Ve Singer: Babu Haabi, Shahid Mallya, Bhanu Pratap Lyrics: Shellee This is an addiction. The song I meant - well the stuff this song talks about is also an addiction. I think this is the first time I've heard narration in a song as lyrics. The introductory rap portions in the song provides a glimpse of how an addict behaves while the rest of the song highlights the effects of chitta ve and the situation of addicted people in Punjab. If you

Music Review | Housefull 3 | Mika Singh, Sharib-Toshi, Sohail Sen, Tanishk Bagchi

Another Sajid Khan movie *sigh*  Another slapstick comedy featuring Akshay Kumar *sigh* Let's get done with it as fast as possible Listen to Housefull-3-2016 on Saavn *30 minutes later* My review below will be unbiased by the fact the it is going to be a mindless comedy  Sajid Khan film and will be biased towards good music. *fingers crossed* Pyar Ki Music: Sharib-Toshi Singers: Sharib Sabri, Toshi Sabri, Nakash Aziz, Divya Kumar, Anmol Malik, Earl Edgar Lyrics:  Manoj Yadav, Farhad-Sajid, Danish Sabri You had six singers and three lyricists and what chorus did you come up with? "Pyar Ki Maa Ki Aaj Se Puja Karni Hai". *please kill me already* The song starts with a vibe similar to Hookah Bar   and goes downhill from there. Not only the music is cliched and the lyrics are crappy, they also couldn't find sufficient lyrics. They went ahead and included 'Baba Baba Black Sheep' and 'Jack & Jill' verses in the song

YouTube Discovery | Ep. 03 | Saurabh Shetye - Acoustic Loop Covers

Image
For this post I am going to need your additional attention. Keep a note of this (Ctrl+C). Throughout the article you will notice  this (Ctrl + V)  without me putting in a lot of effort in repeating to write  this (Ctrl + V).  A loop is something that keeps on repeating itself. Percussion and other musical instruments along with background vocals are usually played on loop in a song. An acoustic loop is just the non-electric instruments and vocals looped in the song. So now you know what I am going to talk about. This (Ctrl + V) is a vocal looping processor.  It is just an instrument to record, overdub, play, and stop  for some but for others it is their entire band. However, a looper will merely repeat the same thing until the end of it. Similar to what I am doing with  this (Ctrl + V). Just by writing  this (Ctrl + V), I have looped it but just  this (Ctrl + V)  is mundane and does not really change the content that I am writing in  this (Ctrl + V) post. In the same
