Music Review | Jab Harry Met Sejal | Pritam

Image
Pritam has composed three music albums in last two months. This is the fourth one. All the previous ones have been good albums with  Jagga Jasoos  being the best so far. Can this album surpass it? Let us find out. Album Release Date: 3rd August 2017 Listen to the album on: Saavn Wynk Radha Singers: Shahid Mallya, Sunidhi Chauhan Lyrics: Irshad Kamil This song didn't quite click with me. The singing combination was north pole-south pole. Let me be shameless and do a comparison with the other Radha from SOTY  since both of them are on the same lines. That one was way better than this one. It is surprising that being a Radha song, it has very minimal traditional desi  beats. Shahid Mallya did a great job in building up the hype until chorus but it just fizzled. Beech Beech Mein Singers: Shefali Alvares, Shalmali Kholgade, Arijit Singh Lyrics: Irshad Kamil I was having a casual chat with my friend while listening to this song and ...

Music Review | Phillauri | Jasleen Royal, Shashwat Sachdev

Image
Anushka Sharma is back with Phillauri as an actor and as a producer. The reason I am talking about her is that we literally have no information about Shashwat Sachdev. This is good in a way. I have zero opinion about his music before this music review. I am going to listen to this album with a blank canvas in my head and let Shashwat paint it with his music. Also, this album has Jasleen Royal (one of my musical crushes). So without further ado, let's get right into it! Album Release Date: 6th March 2017 (Click on the song title to listen to it on Saavn) Dum Dum Music Composer: Shashwat Sachdev Singers: Romy, Vivek Hariharan Lyrics: Anvita Dutt Runtime: 5 minutes 13 seconds Even though Dum Dum might sound like a charged up party song or qawwali , this is actually a soft sufi song. The song begin with iktara instrument and gives a little bit feel of  Udja Kaale Kawa (Gadar) . This entire song is more than five minutes but it is not woven together seamlessly. T...

Music Review | Ae Dil Hai Mushkil | Pritam

I Hate It! Yes, I hate the current trend of releasing individual songs until the release of the movie. It all started with Baar Baar Dekho , where Kala Chashma was released even before the trailer was launched. A similar strategy was implemented with this album too. The title track and Bulleya were launched (on 6th Sept and 15th Sept respctively) before the trailer (22nd Sept). Following which every other song was released within 15 days of the previous release. The last one being Cutiepie (24th Oct) that was release just 4 days before the movie release. And the entire album was released 2 days before the movie released on 26th October. Although, it is a really wise move to use songs as a form of viral marketing until the release. However, releasing individual songs over a long stretch of time periods defeats the purpose of the album. Anyways, enough of the rant. I was really looking forward to review this album. This one is going to be rather short one. It's better late than ne...

Music Review | Sultan | Vishal-Shekhar

Image
Salman Khan returns with ummm... Vishal-Shekhar? That's something we've not seen (read: heard) before. With mindless movies, Salman Khan has also left behind mindless music directors and hence mindless songs since Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Alright, without further ado, let's see if this album stamps it's "Sultan iyat " in terms of quality music. Listen on Saavn Listen to Sultan-2016 on Saavn Listen on YouTube Baby Ko Bass Pasand Hai Lyrics: Irshad Kamil Singers:  Vishal Dadlani, Shalmali Kholgade, Ishita, Badshah From the lyrics standpoint, I like how the guy is trying to woo her with every pick-up line but when nothing works - baby ko bass pasand hai. I guess music is the way to woman's heart. I am starting to find rap in every foot-tapping song monotonous now. The song could have been a lot cleaner without the rap and still retain its charm. Jag Ghoomeya Lyrics: Irshad Kamil Singer: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan First thing you notice is that this s...
