Music Review | Jab Harry Met Sejal | Pritam

Pritam has composed three music albums in last two months. This is the fourth one. All the previous ones have been good albums with Jagga Jasoos being the best so far. Can this album surpass it? Let us find out.

Album Release Date: 3rd August 2017

Radha
Singers: Shahid Mallya, Sunidhi Chauhan
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
This song didn't quite click with me. The singing combination was north pole-south pole. Let me be shameless and do a comparison with the other Radha from SOTY since both of them are on the same lines. That one was way better than this one. It is surprising that being a Radha song, it has very minimal traditional desi beats. Shahid Mallya did a great job in building up the hype until chorus but it just fizzled.

Beech Beech Mein
Singers: Shefali Alvares, Shalmali Kholgade, Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
I was having a casual chat with my friend while listening to this song and this song kept playing into the background. I did not even notice when the song ended. I heard this song a couple of more times but the only parts that stuck in my head were "Beech Beech Mein"

Safar
Singers: Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
Finally, this album delivers a great song. Arijit Singh with minimal music is the best combination. Hats off to Irshad Kamil for amazing lyrics. The song talks about the most important part of travelling (metaphor for living life) i.e. THE JOURNEY. This also brings out how nomad a traveller is. My favourite line is the chorus - "Idhar ka hi hoon na udhar ka raha, Safar ka hi tha main safar ka raha". I would definitely listen to this song on long drives. P.S.: Do watch the video of this song

Butterfly
Singers: Nooran Sisters, Aaman Trikha, Sunidhi Chauhan, Dev Negi
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
The only good part about this song is that it doesn't have any rap portions. It is proud of what it is without trying to act cool. I wish the chorus was something other than butterfly. Nooran sisters portion in the end is worth listening the entire song.

Hawayein
Singers: Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
"Le jaaye mujhe kahan, Hawayein, hawayein" is a perfect wanderlust chorus but a nightmare for someone who sticks by the book and plans everything to the T. The song has a nostalgic vibe to it. In terms of singing, Arijit Singh makes it effortless as usual since these are the type of songs he is used to.

Parinda
Singers: Pardeep Sran
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
This is a Punjabi rock song. Ironically being rock song it talks about pretty regretful stuff. "You only value something after you lose it" is what the song talks about. It confuses me (in a good way) whether to feel sad or head bang to the song.

Ghar
Singers: Nikhita Gandhi, Mohit Chauhan
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
The song is less than four minutes in duration but every line is repeated twice. The song is sung by female from a guy's perspective. Towards the end Mohit Chauhan enters and the song is turned into a duet but is still talking from the guy's perspective.

Yaadon Mein
Singers: Mohammed Irfan, Jonita Gandhi, Cuca Roseta
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
If you are in a hurry do not listen to this song. This song lingers around for longer than usual and would be best enjoyed on a Sunday afternoon lazing on a hammock. Jonita gives a powerful start to the song. I really liked the part where Mohammed Irfan ends his part, the guitar strums aggressively and enters Cuca Roseta with her Spanish singing.

Raula
Singers: Diljit Dosanjh, Neeti Mohan
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
With so many Punjabi songs in the market, this one is just passable. I really enjoyed Diljit Dosanjh's Ikk Kudi (Udta Punjab), this one didn't feel compelling enough.

Jee Ve Sohaneya
Singers: Nooran Sisters
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
Solo songs by Nooran sisters are such a delight to listen to. That is the reason why Imtiaz Ali had them back again after Patakha Guddi (Highway). It is amazing that it is just their voice that builds the entire song and not the music.

Phurrr (Film Version)
Singers: Diplo, Tushar Joshi, Mohit Chauhan
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
Last time SRK got an international artist to Bollywood for Chammak Challo (Ra.One), it was a smashing hit. From Akon back then, this time around he has managed to rope in American music artist Diplo. For those who don't know Diplo, he was one of the artist in Justin Beiber's Where Are U Now. It is not very often we get to enjoy EDM in Hindi and for that very reason I liked this song. Mohit Chauhan and Tushar Joshi's singing backed by Diplo's EDM makes this song a perfect dance number in clubs.

Hawayein (Film Version)
Singers: Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
Same song, same singer. Minor changes in musical arrangements.

Parinda (Search)
Singers: Nikhil D'souza, Tochi Raina
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
Same song, different singer. Minor changes in musical arrangements.

It was a huge album. I am not sure if the movie demanded such extensive use of songs or was is just for promotions. Either ways, being a big album there are bound to be some lull songs. Most of the songs though we very beautiful and I enjoyed them thoroughly. So here are my favourites from the album:
Safar
Hawayein
Parinda
Ghar
Yaadon Mein
Jee Ve Sohaneya
Phurrr

That is all I have for this album now. I hope you found this review useful. If you did then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!!
