Music Review | Jagga Jasoos | Pritam

I watched the movie last week and was totally taken by surprise. *spoiler alert* The entire movie is musical i.e. apart from the regular songs, a lot of dialogues are poetic as well. This has increased my excitement to review this album. However, looking at the number of songs in the album, I am certain that those musical conversations are not part of this one and probably will be released later. So without further ado, let's get started.

Album Release Date: 20th July 2017

Ullu Ka Pattha
Singers: Arijit Singh, Nikhita Gandhi
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
The catchphrase " Ullu le, Ullu le" is still stuck in my head even a week after watching the movie. The song has just one stanza and left me wanting for more of this chirpiness. The flamenco guitar in the beginning gives a feel of wanderlust. The song talks about how stupid and day dreamer our heart is. The song ends with a fade on Arijit Singh's aalap.

Galti Se Mistake
Singers: Arijit Singh, Amit Mishra
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
Try resisting not dancing to this song. This is one of those absurd lyrics catchy songs. The song suggests that this is the age to do silly mistakes in life. These moments will not come back. Totally in love with this song and playing it on repeat. Surprisingly, Arijit Singh has sung only one line in the song – i.e. “Yehi Umar Hai Karle”. The rest of the song is sung by Amit Mishra.

Jhumritalaiyya
Singers: Arijit Singh, Mohan Kanan
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
This song is one of those Arijit-Pritam template but it is cute nonetheless. Amitabh Bhattacharya really squeezes out beautiful phrases to the ghisa-pita concept of how different two characters are. The entire song apart from the chorus is conversational.

Phir Wahi
Singers: Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
Arijit says phir wahi and then continues to sing phir wahi phir wahi throughout the song. Everytime this phrase came, I just asked myself in my head, "phir wahi?"

Musafir
Singers: Tushar Joshi
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
This song has a Kabira (YJHD) vibe (with the nirmohi word as well). I am not sure if Tushar's voice sounds like Arijit or it's just my ears hallucinating. I would have loved to listen to a choir backing Tushar's singing in the song. The song felt like riding too much on the solo voice.

Khaana Khaake
Singers: Pritam Chakraborty, Amitabh Bhattacharya, Tushar
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
Yessss. This is one of the musical conversations from the movie. Not one of the best ones, but good to see they have released it.

Being a musical movie, the album does full justice to the story and characters of the movie. It was rumoured that the movie has 29 songs. Most of them being the musical conversations from the movie. I was expecting the entire album to released two-four weeks after the release the movie so as to avoid spoilers from the movie. They released one of them - Khaana Khaake. I will be eagerly waiting for the rest of the tracks, especially the Tukka Laga conversation between Rabir and Saurabh Shukla. Until then, here are my favourites from the album:
Ullu Ka Pattha
Galti Se Mistake
Jhumritalaiyya

That is all I have for this album now. I hope you found this review useful. If you did then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!!
