Music Mention | Wrong Side Raju (Gujarati) | Sachin-Jigar

If you are a gujju or understand gujarati language, you can also check out my video review for the music album of Wrong Side Raju here:

If not, read on! The page is all yours.

Welcome back to another Music Mention post. My last post in this series on Sairat (Marathi) was quite popular among my readers. This time around we'll be talking about a gujarati movie. I've picked this movie for a couple of reasons:
1. Sachin-Jigar composition
2. Arijit Singh
3. Produced by Abhishek Jain who has directed some of my favourite gujarati movies like Kevi Rite Jaish (How Will I Go) and Bey Yaar (Yo Pal!)
4. Produced by Anurag Kashyap
5. I am a gujju :P

Let me reiterate it again. This is a special case of my music reviews. It is more of a music mention than a review. I liked something and I want others to be aware of it too. (that sounds like the social media culture of this generation of kids :P)

(Click on the song title to play it in YouTube)

Satrangi Re (It's Colourful)
Singer: Arijit Singh, Dawn Cordo
Lyrics: Niren Bhatt
Arijit Singh's debut gujarati song and rightly so couldn't move away my focus from his voice. However, Dawn Cordo did make me notice her during her part. I don't know what she sang but it gave a soothing feel. I feel Arijit Singh was purely used for the commercial aspect. The song is no doubt perfect but the pronunciation of certain gujarati words are off.

Gori Radha Ne Kado Kaan (Fair Radha and Dusky Krishna)
Singer: Divya Kumar
Lyrics: Niren Bhatt
This song just brings smile on my face and memories of Navratri. This is definitely going be played during this year's Navratri. The song talks about how two opposite of people have fallen in love. The song, as the song title says, makes comparisons between the lead couple and Radha Krishna. The song also has popular gujarati folk singer Kirtidan Gadhvi but hasn't been credited in the album.

Zindabad Re (Long Live Gujarat)
Singer: Vishal Dadlani
Lyrics: Niren Bhatt
To be honest, I am not surprised Vishal Dadlani was roped in to sing this rock song. I've heard Suraj Jagan singing first gujarati rock song (Pankhida) so this is not a shocker. From the first moment itself when Vishal started singing 're re re jindabad re' instead of 're re re zindabad re' (notice the difference), I understood that the gujarati pronunciation for this song will be to the point. He nails it with not just lyrics but his energy and singing are endearing. The song talks about various characteristics and aspects of Gujarat.

Katputhla (Puppet)
Singers: Keerthi Sagathia, Jasleen Royal
Lyrics: Niren Bhatt
This album keeps on surprising me. First a bengali, then a sindhi and now a punjabi singing a gujarati song. By now we are all familiar with Jasleen Royal after getting a break in Baar Baar Dekho. I don't know why I was expecting a soft song after reading the song title. This is definitely not a soft song. The song says - "We went wrong somewhere and then suddenly realized that we are just small puppets of something bigger.". When Keerthi Sagathia took the high note for the chorus, it not just gave me chills but unfortunately also gave me feel of Jee Karda (Badlapur) even if I didn't want to.

Amdavad Re (Long Live Ahmedabad)
Singer : Vishal Dadlani
Lyricist : Niren Bhatt
This is a similar song to Zindabad Re. That song talked about the entire Gujarat, this one specifically talks about the people of Ahmedabad . I liked this song better. The lyrics are more bindass and have a extra gujju feel with words like methi maar, vavajodu and lila ler (which are difficult to explain in other languages because of my poor gujarati vocabulary)

With just five songs, the album covers romantic song, sad song, festival song and two rock songs. I do not give out my favourites in this series of posts but I would definitely say go ahead and give this album a try. Feel free to reach out to me for lyrics translation and song interpretation ;)

That is all I have for this album now. I hope you found this review useful. If you did then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!!
