Music Review Catch Up | June-December 2016 | Te3n, Madaari, Fever, Pink, Parched, Force 2, Kahaani 2

It is year end and I was rounding up the music for this year and realized that I've missed a few of the music albums of popular movies. Some of these were already requested by readers as standalone reviews but due to time crunch I was not able to. I take full responsibility for that and apologize. This will be my music review catch up of all the music albums (well, not all. Few handpicked) released since June until now. So without further ado, let's get started! Pick of the individual albums are highlighted in  RED (Click on the movie title to play it on Saavn) Te3n Music Director: Clinton Cerejo Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya Listen on YouTube Haq Hai is a soulful song with beautiful lyrics. I wish the chorus didn't have choir recitation instead only Clinton had sung it. Rootha got me grooving as the song progressed. 'The world is against me' has been conveyed in a very peppy way. Kyun Re This made my wandering my mind sit down take notice of the su

Music Review | Dangal | Pritam

It's Christmas time with an Aamir Khan movie this year. It does make Christmas for lot of us special. Even though we know the movie is going to be really good, this post is not about that. This is about how good (or not) the music of this movie is. So without further ado, let's get this dangal to find good music   started. Album Release Date: 14th December 2016 (Click on the song title to play it on Saavn) Haanikaarak Bapu Singer: Sarwar Khan, Sartaz Khan Barna Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya I just love it when there is a song from kids' perspective. This song brings back the memories of our childhood when our dads (or moms for some) were strict as Hitler - be it for completing the homework or eating healthy food. No matter how much we whined about it as a kid, now we know that they were doing the right thing for us. Not much information is available about the two child singers in the song and that is the reason the song feels raw and authentic. Amitabh Bhatt

Music Review | Befikre | Vishal-Shekhar

I feel like an idiot every time ranting about how a lot a movies these days are releasing their music album just few days prior to it's release. Nonetheless, just as other such music albums I am expecting it to have a few chartbusters and a soulful number. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't be reviewing it. So, without further ado, let's get into it. (Click on the song title to play it on Saavn) Nashe Si Chadh Gayi Singer: Arijit Singh Lyrics: Jaideep Sahni This song is as trippy as the name suggests. The lyrics are free spirited as a kite like mentioned in the song. In some portions of the song, Arijit's voice sounds like Adnan Sami. The fast paced lyrics before the chorus doesn't make any sense (as if the entire movie is going to make any). Despite the flaws, the song did not burn my ears and is a nice groove to dance on. Check out the lyrics of this song here:  http://www.lyricsted.com/nashe-si-chadh-gayi-befikre/ Ude Dil Befikre Sing

Music Review | Wajah Tum Ho | Mithoon, Abhijit Vaghani, Meet Bros, Gourov-Roshin

When few of my readers requested me to review this album, I had no idea about the movie, music or the cast. A quick look at the trailer and the picture got clear as to why this album is popular among some folks. With a shoestring budget, I am willing to take the risk of assuming that there will be nothing spectacular in this album. However, I will get into this album with an unbiased mind as always. So without further ado, let's get into it! Listen on Saavn: Listen to Wajah-Tum-Ho-2016 on Saavn (Click on the song title to play it in YouTube) Wajah Tum Ho Music Composer: Mithoon Singer: Mithoon Featuring Altamash Faridi & Tulsi Kumar  Lyrics: Manoj Muntashir  The song starts off with really soft singing by Altamash and Tulsi with piano chords in the background. However, I felt that with such a slow and soothing song, male voice requires to be deep and forthcoming. Altamash Faridi's voice didn't manage to carry that weight. The lyrics are stereotypicall

Music Review | Ae Dil Hai Mushkil | Pritam

I Hate It! Yes, I hate the current trend of releasing individual songs until the release of the movie. It all started with Baar Baar Dekho , where Kala Chashma was released even before the trailer was launched. A similar strategy was implemented with this album too. The title track and Bulleya were launched (on 6th Sept and 15th Sept respctively) before the trailer (22nd Sept). Following which every other song was released within 15 days of the previous release. The last one being Cutiepie (24th Oct) that was release just 4 days before the movie release. And the entire album was released 2 days before the movie released on 26th October. Although, it is a really wise move to use songs as a form of viral marketing until the release. However, releasing individual songs over a long stretch of time periods defeats the purpose of the album. Anyways, enough of the rant. I was really looking forward to review this album. This one is going to be rather short one. It's better late than ne

Music Review | Shivaay | Mithoon, Jasleen Royal

Not so much for the entire album but after watching the trailer I was definitely curious for the intro song in it. My fascination for Jasleen Royal's voice also pulled me towards reviewing this album. I apologize for publishing this a little late, I've been travelling a lot lately. So without further ado, let's chant ganpati bappa 's name start this music review of Shivaay . Listen on Saavn: Listen to Shivaay-2016 on Saavn (Click on the song title to play it in YouTube) Bolo Har Har Har Music Composer: Mithoon Singer: Mohit Chauhan, Sukhwinder Singh, Badshah, Megha Sriram Dalton, Anugrah. Lyrics: Sandeep Shrivastava The intro is the same piece we heard at the beginning of the movie trailer . I WAS actually looking forward to this song. Let's split this based on which singer has sung what part. Starting with Mohit Chauhan - his voice gave a deep echo feel of the valleys in the song. He was one of the reasons I managed to get through this entire so

Music Review | Rock On 2 | Shankar Ehsaan Loy

Back to back Shankar Ehsaan Loy reviews on this blog. Previous one being Mirzya . Despite this album being a sequel to one of the most loved albums, I am going to review it as any other album and not as a franchise. Looking forward to Shraddha Kapoor singing. Listen on Saavn: Listen to Rock-On-2-2016 on Saavn (Click on the song title to play it in YouTube) Jaago Singer: Farhan Akhtar, Siddharth Mahadevan Lyrics: Javed Akhtar Even though the song is about waking up and knowing your rights, that is not the purpose of this song in the album. This song doesn't want to 'wake you up'. Towards the end of the song if you started head banging (even if it means just in your mind) then the song was successful in making you feel of the kind of music you'd be encountering in this album. Farhan Akhtar is not a soft singer. He has a coarse and realistic voice and that's what I expected and got in this song. Same goes with the lyrics. They are neither melodic nor

YouTube Discovery | Ep. 05 | Vidya Vox - Mashup Covers

Image
Hello people! Welcome back to another episode in my 'YouTube Discovery' series of posts. It has been a long time since last episode. In case you forgot what I talked about and to whom I talked to in my previous episode,  here is the link to it.  Go ahead and click the link. I'll wait for you on this page before we move ahead. Done? Perfect!(I know a lot of you didn't do it. You, rebel.) So the reason I insisted you on reading my previous episode was because both these artists, though working with two different types of music, have successfully managed to build a bridge between a vast and complex spectrum of western and Indian music. Before you go all confused, let us take one step at a time and try to break this down for the ease of understanding. Firstly, what is a mashup ? In it's raw form, it is a mixture or fusion of disparate elements. In recent years, this definition has been successfully translated into music. In the world of music, a mashup song is
