Music Review | Ae Dil Hai Mushkil | Pritam

I Hate It! Yes, I hate the current trend of releasing individual songs until the release of the movie. It all started with Baar Baar Dekho, where Kala Chashma was released even before the trailer was launched. A similar strategy was implemented with this album too. The title track and Bulleya were launched (on 6th Sept and 15th Sept respctively) before the trailer (22nd Sept). Following which every other song was released within 15 days of the previous release. The last one being Cutiepie (24th Oct) that was release just 4 days before the movie release. And the entire album was released 2 days before the movie released on 26th October. Although, it is a really wise move to use songs as a form of viral marketing until the release. However, releasing individual songs over a long stretch of time periods defeats the purpose of the album. Anyways, enough of the rant. I was really looking forward to review this album. This one is going to be rather short one. It's better late than never. So let's get started!

Singer: Pritam, Arijit Singh, Ash King, Shashwat Singh
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
The song starts off with typical Ash King vibe reminiscing of Te Amo and I Love You and ends English rap. Nothing special or extraordinary about the song but just soothing to listen to.

Singer: Pradeep Singh Sran, Nakash Aziz
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
This song is so cheesy and stereotypical that I am choosing to skip. You'd make a wise decision by doing the same.

Singer: Arijit Singh, Jonita Gandhi, Badshah, Nakash Aziz
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
Never before has a breakup song made me get up from my couch and forced me to dance. I wish real life breakups would also be so much fun. This is the second instance where I felt rapping was totally unnecessary (previous being Baby Ko Bass Pasand Hai). The entire song goes in a homogenous flow of beats and the rap completely breaks it. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this song.

Singer: Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
This song comes so close to being similar to Kabira (YJHD) yet it is quite different. This is actually a breakup song or a farewell song if you'd like to call it so. The song goes a little heavy on strings which overpowers Arijit's voice.

Singer: Amit Mishra, Shilpa Rao
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
You know it when you hear a showstopper of the music album. This song has ten times higher energy levels than other songs of the album. This is not the first time Amit Mishra has delivered such a high energy song. His other songs include Manma Emotion Jaage (Dilwale) and Sau Tarah Ke (Dishoom). Shilpa Rao brilliantly provides level headedness to this song with her soothing vocals. This song has been on my repeat list for past few weeks.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
Singer: Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
Cue - fade railway tracks sound, followed by piano loop, deep vocal start to the song by Arijit Singh, close up of Ranbir Kapoor. You see how good things about this song are escalating. The song starts slow but paces up quickly throughout the course. The song maintains the mood and feel until the first verse (2:45 minutes to precise). The seconds verse feels disconnected in the first few lines until Arijit returns to high notes

With four out of six song sung by Arijit Singh, it was supposed to be a wet dream for any of his fan but as I mentioned, the showstopper surprisingly turned out to be Amit Mishra with Bulleya. The album as a whole didn't have much weight to it. Maybe that could be the reason for them to released just one song at a time and capitalize on the viral trend. So here are my favourites from the album:
The Breakup Song
Bulleya
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
Channa Mereya

That is all I have for this album. I hope you found this review useful. If you did then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album or if you have any suggestions/feedback - in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!
