Music Review | A Flying Jatt | Sachin-Jigar

I am not so much interested in the movie. The only reason I chose to listen to this album was Sachin-Jigar. I've been a big fan of their music. Do I have high expectations from this album? Well, it's conflicting - Tiger Shroff movie makes me question my expectation but I also know that Sachin-Jigar will not compromise.

So, without further ado, let's get into it and see if this album can set it's songs flying like the Jatt himself or falls flat on the ground

A Flying Jatt - Title Track
Lyrics : Vayu & Raftaar
Singers : Raftaar, Mansheel Gujral, Tanishkaa
I like this song. Period. Now let's get into one thing that bothered me. I understand this song is dedicated to the kids (even though lyrics have alcohol references), but a 8-year old girl (Tanishkaa) singing the following lines is just wrong - "Flying jatt mera BFF hai, Aur ikloti main uski GF hoon (samjhi?), Uspe na daalo nazar kudiyon, Main to uske liye possessive hoon". Apart from that, with the kind of hip-hop and rap, I can easily expect this song to be popular on the dancefloors of clubs.

Lyrics : Priya Saraiya
Singers : Atif Aslam, Sumedha Karmahe
You don't have Atif Aslam as your singer and then overpower the song with musical arrangements. That's just wrong. You also don't have Atif Aslam as your singer and not give him the chorus until the last verse. Double wrong. Atif Aslam has a strong vocal presence and Sumedha Karmahe has a really soft voice which gives it a stark contrast. This song will be popular for obvious reasons, but fails to impress me.

Lyrics : Priya Saraiya
Singer : Atif Aslam
This is the Atif Aslam song the album required. Some portions of the song sound similar to Chunar (ABCD 2) but that is probably because they are outcomes of same raag. The song starts with humming - caught my attention right there. Musical arrangements are smartly used. Lines start with just vocals and end with a fade-in beats which gave me moments to just enjoy Atif's voice and and also created  an anticipation for the music towards the end of verse.

Lyrics : Mayur Puri
Singers : Vishal Dadlani, Divya Kumar, Asees Kaur
This song is every Punjabi stereotype you can ever imagine. Right from the dhols at the beginning to the only Asees Kaur portions about rum and whiskey in the end. Perfect choice of both the male singers. They nailed it with their energy. The song has a really fast tempo and as a result most of the lines do not have more than four words each.

Lyrics : Priya Saraiya
Singers : Sachin Sanghvi, Jigar Saraiya, Vayu, Kanika Kapoor
To what extend is autotune allowed in a song? To the extent that it doesn't sound robotic. Well, it does sound robotic in this one, so I wouldn't give much credit to the singing for this song. However, the song is very catchy. This song is neither in Hindi nor in Punjabi. It is a combination of Hinglish and Punjlish. "Twirk’aa de beat pe booty" let this talk for itself. Even though singing is invalid and lyrics carry little meaning, this is still one of my favourite songs of the album. Some songs just get stuck in your head.

Lyrics : Priya Saraiya
Singers : Daler Mehndi, Navraj Hans
This song should've been the title song. This song has such motivational lyrics and is high on confidence. The interpretation of lyrics is - if you keep doing good deeds with good intentions and believe God is with you then nobody can stop you from accomplishing the task. The song goes mellow just before the last verse and then builds up the pace again from there. Daler Mehndi and Navraj Hans (son of Hans Raj Hans) bring in insane amount of energy to this song.

This album fulfilled all my expectations I had from a Sachin-Jigar composition. Even though I am not looking forward to the movie, these songs will continue to linger in my memory for a long time. So, here are my favourites from the album -
A Flying Jatt - Title Track,
Khair Mangda,
Beat Pe Booty,
Raj Karega Khalsa

That is all I have for this album. I hope you found this review useful. If you do then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album or if you have any suggestions/feedback - in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!
