Music Review | Shivaay | Mithoon, Jasleen Royal

Not so much for the entire album but after watching the trailer I was definitely curious for the intro song in it. My fascination for Jasleen Royal's voice also pulled me towards reviewing this album. I apologize for publishing this a little late, I've been travelling a lot lately. So without further ado, let's chant ganpati bappa's name start this music review of Shivaay.

Bolo Har Har Har
Music Composer: Mithoon
Singer: Mohit Chauhan, Sukhwinder Singh, Badshah, Megha Sriram Dalton, Anugrah.
Lyrics: Sandeep Shrivastava
The intro is the same piece we heard at the beginning of the movie trailer. I WAS actually looking forward to this song. Let's split this based on which singer has sung what part. Starting with Mohit Chauhan - his voice gave a deep echo feel of the valleys in the song. He was one of the reasons I managed to get through this entire song. Sukhwinder Singh - the only verse he sings in this song is 'Toh bolo har har har'. Badshah - this song would've been so much better without his contribution. The lyrics for his portion is good but a rap song for Lord Shiva is something I am not able to digest. The only decent part in his rap was 'Ja ja ke kailash ja kar vinaash' which actually gives the feel of Lord Shiva. The bass guitar portions after his first rap verse is amazing. Megha Sriram Dalton - another reason to listen to this song. She sings the 'Shiva Mahimnah Stotram' and 'Shiva Panchakshara Stotram'

Music Composer: Mithoon
Singer: Arijit Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan
Lyrics: Sayeed Quadri
The song starts with Sunidhi Chauhan providing a pedestal for Arijit Singh to take off. The way he picks up the song until chorus in the first two minutes is pure bliss. But, as it is rightly researched, that humans have a very short span of attention, I lost my focus in the next two minutes. Reason? Ordinary music compared to the start Arijit provided in the song. And then the next two minutes, Sunidhi proceeds to conclude the song. The transition where Arijit Singh hands over the mantle to Sunidhi to takeover doesn't go well. Pro Tip: Listen to this song without imagining that it is picturised on Ajay Devgn.

Music Composer: Jasleen Royal
Singer: Jasleen Royal
Lyricist: Aditya Sharma
I would to listen whatever this girl sings. Jasleen Royal has such a sweet and innocent voice that your heart automatically melts. Moreover, this song shows relationship between a father and his daughter. No doubt everybody loves Jasleen Royal, but my only fear after this song is that all of her songs are of similar genre and she might soon be typecasted to sing just such type of songs (unless she wants to make such kind of songs her forte in the industry). Coming back to the song, the only weak link in this song are the lyrics. Words and phrases used in this song are very basic and ordinary.

Music Composer: Mithoon
Singer: Kailash Kher
Lyrics: Sayeed Quadri
This is a lyrics driven song. Sayeed Quadri's words hit hard. Add to it, Kailash Kher's full scale range of singing. However, like other songs, this song too has its moment in bits and pieces but fails to impact as a whole

Never have I heard the reprise version of a song so dark and gloomy. The song is scary as well as confusing as hell. Jasleen's voice gives out innocence but the music scares you. For the lack of better example, while listening to this song I was somehow reminded of Regan MacNeil from the movie The Exorcist. I know it's a really bad reference to ruin the song but I despite that I actually liked this song.

Not as spectacular album as the movie looks to be. You won't be missing out on a lot if you choose to skip. Nonetheless, here my favourites from the album:
Bolo Har Har (just for Mohit Chauhan and Megha Sriram Dalton)
Darkhaast
Raatein (Reprise)

That is all I have for this album. I hope you found this review useful. If you did then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album or if you have any suggestions/feedback - in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!
