Music Mention | Sairat (Marathi) | Ajay-Atul

So last week I watched this movie after it created a lot of buzz in the film industry. The film is no doubt a realistic masterpiece. What caught my attention was its music. It's a three hour long movie but has only four songs. And those four songs are purely situational and takes the story forward

Even though I understand and speak Marathi, it was difficult to interpret rural Marathi. Even with such difficulty in terms of language, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and the music.

This is a special case of my music reviews. It is more of a music mention than a review. I liked something and I want others to be aware of it too (that sounds like the social media culture of this generation of kids :P)

Yad Lagla (Gone Completely Insane)
Singer: Ajay Gogavale
Lyrics: Ajay-Atul
Basically I am writing this post because of this song. Being a Marathi movie you don't expect such kind of song, that too for a movie depicting rural Maharashtra. This is a the first Indian film song to be recorded in Symphony Orchestra at Hollywood. The song traverses a sine/cosine wave during its playtime. The song starts off with in a grand orchestra style, mellows down with just flute and then the verse starts. Even though the song uses only international instruments it manages to stick to its desi feel. *on repeat mode*

Aatach Baya Ka Baavarla (Girl Just Went Crazy)
Singer: Shreya Ghoshal
Lyrics: Ajay-Atul
Shreya Ghoshal - romantic number, slow and mellow music, duet. WRONG
This song is completely opposite of that. Well, it does is a romantic number from a girl's perspective. However, the girl depicted in the movie has a dominant character. She is strong, independent and speaks her mind. Her type of romance cannot be all mushy. The song starts with soft music and then turning it into a semi-rock number during the chorus.

Sairat Jhala Ji (Wildness Spreading Across)
Singer: Chinmaya Sripada, Ajay Gogavale
Lyrics: Ajay-Atul
What better way to start a love story title track with guitar strums followed by flute. It is interesting how ironic this song is. The movie depicts a relationship of strong girl and soft spoken guy. However, this song gives female portions a soft touch and male portions are are enhanced by percussion. *another one on repeat mode*

Zingaat (???)
Singer: Ajay-Atul
Lyrics: Ajay-Atul
If you are missing the dahi handi or ganesh chaturthi season of Mumbai, listen to this song. It is guaranteed to make you get up and dance. It's a party song - rural ishtyle. What does zingaat mean you may ask? I'll tell you if you can tell me what do words like jhakkas and bhidu mean.

Since this album has just four songs and this is not a typical Bollywood movie review, I would recommend to listen to entire album at least once.

That is all I have for this album. I hope you liked this review. If you do then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album or if you have any suggestions/feedback - in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!
