Music Review | A Gentleman- SSR | Sachin-Jigar

Image
Before we start, let us clear a very important thing. The SSR in the title of the movie does not stand for Sushant Singh Rajput but it is part of the movie title and stands for 'Sundar Susheel Risky'. So now that we have got that out of our way, let us get started with the review! Album Release Date: 17th August 2017 Listen to the album on: Saavn Gaana YouTube Disco Disco Singers: Benny Dayal, Shirley Setia Lyrics: Vayu I have a huge bias against this song. I have been following Shirley Setia for last four years since her first cover on YouTube and have been a huge fan (crush maybe?) of her. When I heard that she was going to sing in a Bollywood movie, I was really looking forward to it. If you haven't heard her before,  this is her original song . She has such a soulful voice. All I could hear in this song was AUTO TUNE. Auto tune that could be anyone but Shirley's voice. The reason I am talking so much about her is because the song in itself is just meh!...

Music Review | Bareilly Ki Barfi | Tanishk Bagchi, Arko and Others

Image
This seems like one of those movies where a couple of songs get really popular and after a few months we wouldn't even recall the name of the movie. I am looking forward to songs by Tanishk Bagchi and Arko specifically. So without further ado, let us get started! Album Release Date: 3rd August 2017 Listen to the album on: Saavn Gaana Wynk Sweety Tera Dream Music: Tanishk Bagchi Singers: Dev Negi, Pawni Pandey, Shraddha Pandit Lyrics: Shabbir Ahmed This is a less entertaining  gaanv-ka version of  Drama Queen (Hasee Toh Phasee) . The song features two guys and a girl but is sung by two female singers and one male singer. Thus, creating a disconnect. Nazm Nazm Music: Arko Singers: Arko Lyrics: Arko The last time I loved a song composed, written and sung by Arko was Dariya (Baar Baar Dekho) . In this one as well, I am really digging his singing. He starts his lines with an intense lift. However, I would have liked he would have experime...

Music Review | Jab Harry Met Sejal | Pritam

Image
Pritam has composed three music albums in last two months. This is the fourth one. All the previous ones have been good albums with  Jagga Jasoos  being the best so far. Can this album surpass it? Let us find out. Album Release Date: 3rd August 2017 Listen to the album on: Saavn Wynk Radha Singers: Shahid Mallya, Sunidhi Chauhan Lyrics: Irshad Kamil This song didn't quite click with me. The singing combination was north pole-south pole. Let me be shameless and do a comparison with the other Radha from SOTY  since both of them are on the same lines. That one was way better than this one. It is surprising that being a Radha song, it has very minimal traditional desi  beats. Shahid Mallya did a great job in building up the hype until chorus but it just fizzled. Beech Beech Mein Singers: Shefali Alvares, Shalmali Kholgade, Arijit Singh Lyrics: Irshad Kamil I was having a casual chat with my friend while listening to this song and ...

Music Review | Qaidi Band | Amit Trivedi

Image
Five years after Ishaqzaade, YRF brings in another movie with newcomers. Amit Trivedi, once again, is given the mantle to win audiences' hearts with the music. What is more interesting is that this movie is about music, which means Amit Trivedi gets to go all in with this one. So without further ado, let us get right into it! Album Release Date: 25th July 2017 (Click on the song title to listen to it on Saavn) I Am India Singers: Arijit Singh, Yashita Sharma Lyrics: Habib Faisal There is so much confusion online regarding the singer of this song. The voice does not sound like Arijit Singh at all but more like Amit Trivedi. But at this point in time, all we can do is take the information at it's face value. This is a patriotic song without the in-your-face persuasive lyrics. Talking about lyrics, it touches all the corners and colors of India. For the first time, I enjoyed someone else's singing more than Arijit's. Yashita Sharma totally nailed this song. Bo...

Music Review | Jagga Jasoos | Pritam

Image
I watched the movie last week and was totally taken by surprise. *spoiler alert* The entire movie is musical i.e. apart from the regular songs, a lot of dialogues are poetic as well. This has increased my excitement to review this album. However, looking at the number of songs in the album, I am certain that those musical conversations are not part of this one and probably will be released later. So without further ado, let's get started. Album Release Date: 20th July 2017 (Click on the song title to listen to it on Saavn) Ullu Ka Pattha Singers: Arijit Singh, Nikhita Gandhi Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya The catchphrase " Ullu le, Ullu le" is still stuck in my head even a week after watching the movie. The song has just one stanza and left me wanting for more of this chirpiness. The flamenco guitar in the beginning gives a feel of wanderlust. The song talks about how stupid and day dreamer our heart is. The song ends with a fade on Arijit Singh's aalap. ...
