Music Review | Raabta | JAM8, Sohrabuddin

An immensely popular song by the most loved singer of Bollywood in a super flop movie and we have extrapolated it to an entire movie titled the same and most of the songs sung by him. But that is none of my business. I am here for the music, not movie. So without further ado, let's get right into it!

Album Release Date: 3rd June 2017

Ik Vaari Aa
Singers: Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
There are some songs whose music makes instant connection to you. This is one of those songs. This song is about wanting to meet that special one again. Remember the feel good song Suraj Dooba Hai (Roy)? This one is on the similar lines and manages to be one of the favourites of this album.

Raabta (Title Track)
Singers: Arijit Singh, Nikhita Gandhi
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya, Irshad Kamil
Nikhita Gandhi starts off the song beautifully with her soothing and angelic voice. Arijit Singh steps forward in the middle and brings in the verses from the original song. Things are beautiful and magical all along except for the parts where it is blatantly turned into a party number.

Sadda Move
Singers: Diljit Dosanjh, Pardeep Singh Sran, Raftaar
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya, Irshad Kamil
There are two types of Punjabi songs - hippy dance number or melodramatic sad song. This is the former one. As I have iterated multiple times, when the tune is catchy, lyrics have very little value. It is good to see Diljit Dosanjh breaking barriers in commercial Bollywood music with Punjabi voice which has been, for the longest time, ruled by Sukhwinder Singh and Mika Singh.

Lambiyaan Si Judaiyaan
Singers: Arijit Singh, Shadab Faridi, Altamash Faridi
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
From Lambi Judaai (Jannat) to this, we have stretched it really long (literally). The violins in the beginning are really crisp👌. Not one of the better sad songs by Arijit Singh though. The Faridi brothers barely had any lines to sing in the song.

Main Tera Boyfriend
Singers: Arijit Singh, Neha Kakkar
Lyrics: Kumaar
In case you haven't heard the original song (which is highly improbable), this is a remake of Punjabi artist J-Star's chartbuster Na Na Na Na. I loved the original song. Surprisingly I am enjoying this version too. The only complaint from this song are some portion of lyrics. There is a line in the beginning that goes like this "Duniya ko khud se alag karke, Rakh lunga tujhko main hug karke". Now without the lyrics in front of me, the hug can be conveniently misheard as hag (poop in hindi). There is this another line in the chorus of female part "Tu mera boyfriend main teri girlfriend, naman karungi na na na na". Now, praying for a guy to be her boyfriend is quite sexist. After listening to it again and again, I came to conclusion that it is not naman but tammana which is not sexist and makes sense. However, the actual lyrics are "Tu mera boyfriend, Main teri girlfriend,Ab na karungi na na na na". 😑

Darasal
Singers: Atif Aslam
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
The guitar strums in the beginning are so similar to Atif's other song Jeena Jeena (Badlapur). That's it, rest of the song does not resemble it even to an inch. Nothing extraordinary in this song. You can skip unless you are an Atif fanatic.

Ik Vaari Aa (Jubin Version)
Singers: Jubin Nautiyal
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
This one was not required, especially when it is the exact replicate of the original one. Jubin struggles with high notes here and it feels like an amateurish attempt.

Not the strongest of Pritam's album. The music album is not as compelling as the trailer of the movie looks like. My favorites from the album are
Ik Vaari Aa
Main Tera Boyfriend

That is all I have for this album now. I hope you found this review useful. If you did then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!!
