Music Review | Sachin: A Billion Dreams | A. R. Rahman

We have all been waiting for this biopic to release as eagerly as we have always waited for Sachin Tendulkar to cross the hundred run mark. Good music or not, this movie does not need publicity to make people go and watch it. What makes it special, though, is that A. R. Rahman has composed the music for this biopic. So without further ado, let's get right into it!

Album Release Date: 18th May 2017

Hind Mere Jind
Singers: A. R. Rahman
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
When A. R. Rahman sings a mellow song, you can't help but melt with the music. Trying not to get carried away with the flow of the song with such a beautiful music. If you listen to the lyrics closely, it is an inspirational song. Inspiration to love your own country - India; which is exactly the meaning of the title of the song 'India my beloved'. Someone pointed out online that the music of this song takes parallels from One Love - Kadhal Onru Allava (Taj Mahal Anthem) which is also composed by the man himself. Sure, there are some portions where the music is similar but that doesn't take away from how beautiful this song is.

Sachin Sachin
Singers: Sukhwinder Singh, Kaly
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil, Kaly
A. R. Rahman and Sukhwinder Singh come together once again after Jai Ho (Slumdog Millionaire) to create an anthem. The song begins with chants of "SACHIN SACHIN!!!" (I know you read it with that same enthusiasm). Every Indian cricket fan has chanted this at least once during a match. The emotional quotient of this chant is so high that even after his retirement spectators still chant his name in any match being played at the Wankhede Cricket Stadium (Mumbai). This song rides on the iconic chant itself rather than Sukhwinder's singing. The rap by Kaly went past the song without even bothering (read: hurting) my ears.

Mard Maratha
Singers: A.R. Ameen, Anjali Gaikwad
Lyrics: Irshad Kamil
I have always shown my fondness to songs that feature child singers. And this song is sung A. R. Ameen (yes, you guessed it right) and child prodigy Anjali Gaikwad from Ahmednagar. The song, I suppose, is set during Sachin's childhood and traces his journey from holding a cricket bat for the first time to becoming the youngest cricketer to play for India. Both the singers complement each other so well. Ameen voice is smooth and polished whereas Anjali's voice is rustic and rural.

With just three songs, the album serves its purpose well and to the point. Makes me look forward to this biopic even more. I am sure if we can leave our work and watch Sachin bat and get a century then we can definitely spend 12 minutes to explore this album and feel nostalgic about all those memories. If you are planning to watch the movie, I recommend you listen to this album.

That is all I have for this album now. I hope you found this review useful. If you did then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!!
