Music Review | Dangal | Pritam

It's Christmas time with an Aamir Khan movie this year. It does make Christmas for lot of us special. Even though we know the movie is going to be really good, this post is not about that. This is about how good (or not) the music of this movie is. So without further ado, let's get this dangal to find good music started.

Album Release Date: 14th December 2016

Haanikaarak Bapu
Singer: Sarwar Khan, Sartaz Khan Barna
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
I just love it when there is a song from kids' perspective. This song brings back the memories of our childhood when our dads (or moms for some) were strict as Hitler - be it for completing the homework or eating healthy food. No matter how much we whined about it as a kid, now we know that they were doing the right thing for us. Not much information is available about the two child singers in the song and that is the reason the song feels raw and authentic. Amitabh Bhattacharya provided very realistic lyrics in a hilarious way

Singer: Raftaar
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
When I first read that this is Raftaar's solo song I was a bit skeptical about how a rap song would fit into this album Haryanvi songs but I was wrong. This song proved that music has no language barrier and you can rap in Haryanvi too. The entire song is in low note which fits in well with the mood. The only part I felt required more energy was the chorus. The chorus was flat without any variation in pitch or energy.

Singer: Jonita Gandhi
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
There is a reason why she was the most popular YouTube singer in India before she got a break into Bollywood. Such soft and graceful voice Jonita has lent into this song. It exemplifies that fighters have a soft side too.

Singer: Daler Mehndi
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
The lyrics for every song in this album is on point. You start from your mother's womb and end when you die. Everything in between that we call life is a FIGHT. The song, however, didn't manage to keep me hooked on throughout. I wished it was a bit shorter. I specifically liked "Re lath gaad doon, Re jaada paad doon" phrase in the song.

Singer: Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
Take it in writing from me (well, already written as part of this post 😛) This will be the most loved song after the release of the movie. Partly because of the time in the movie it'll feature and partly because of lyrics. Arijit Singh doesn't give much of an impact with his singing in this one. The song talks about eyes - characteristics and behaviour. This song ended too soon!

Singer: Aamir Khan
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
We all love to sing on a karaoke. So does Aamir Khan. That's what this is - a bad karaoke singing to the original song. Skip it to avoid dangal to your ears.

Singer: Jyoti Nooran, Sultana Nooran (Nooran Sisters)
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
This song is wife's version of hanikarak bapu. This is also a peppy version of O Womaniya (Gangs of Wasseypur). I am still underwhelmed by Nooran sisters. They haven't had a powerful song post Tuk Tuk (Sultan).

After a long time, I've got to review an album which consistently matches up with the essence of the movie. This album makes me look forward to the movie even more. So here are my favourites from the album:
Haanikaarak Bapu
Gilheriyaan
Dangal
Naina

That is all I have for this album. I hope you found this review useful. If you did then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album or if you have any suggestions/feedback - in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!
