Music Review | Happy Bhag Jayegi | Sohail Sen

The last full-fledged album we heard by Sohail Sen was Gunday which had it's share of decent songs (Remember, Tune Maari Entriyaan?). So has been the case with a lot of his previous albums. There have always been two-three terrific songs in his albums. Will be looking out for those in this one too.

So, without further ado, let's get into it and see if this album can maintain my 'Happy' mood or will bhagao my mood just like how 'Happy' ran away.

Happy Oye
Singers: Harshdeep Kaur, Shahid Mallya
Lyrics: Mudassar Aziz
"You cannot stop her. The more you try to stop her, the more she'll rebel and do her own."
'Happy' is such a soft and mellow name and this song is about her. The songs starts with heavy bass guitar and then you have Harshdeep Kaur and Shahid Mallya - two of the very powerful singers. What an irony! The lyrics sucessfully paint out the Happy's badass personality and both the singers did really great job.

Singers: Mika Singh, Tarranum Malik, Neeti Mohan, Danish Sabri
Lyrics: Mudassar Aziz
English Rap Lyrics: Dee MC
It's the Mika effect - need I say anything further? Yes, obviously because this is a review :P
Even if I try to trivialize the lyrics, there is one line in chorus which definitely deserves to be proof-read. It says "Ho bada killer tera style hai, Mona Lisa smile hai". Have you seen the famous Mona Lisa painting? Even if I try to find it with a microscope, at most I'll find a smirk and not a smile. Is it wrong that I missed Hard Kaur in the English portions and the rap?

Singer: Sohail Sen ft. Altamash Faridi
Lyrics: Mudassar Aziz
Qawalli-ish type of song. I call it partly qawalli because in the song both the singers sing totally different genre of music. Sohail Sen's portions have melody feel while Altamash Faridi's portions (including the chorus) are qawalli. Coming to the chorus - "Tera, tera… tera hua haan, Aashiq tera, tera… tera hua haan". Just the name of the song itself is the entire chorus.

Singer: Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Mudassar Aziz
A mediocre start to the song. Patiently waited till the chorus and successfully pulled me back into it. This song not only rides on Arijit Singh's voice but the lyrics are also powerful. The song is from a guy's perspective towards a girl whose presence in his life has a strong influence in his personality and confidence. "Tujhse milke dil ko ye yaqeen ho gaya, Aaine mein main sab se haseen ho gaya, Tu nigaahein phere to lage yun mujhe, Mujhse khoobsurat har koi ho gaya". This is my favorite song of the album.

Singer: Javed Ali
Lyrics: Mudassar Aziz
Heavy urdu lyrics which is a strong point in Javed Ali's popular songs like Khwaja Mere Khwaja (Jodha Akbar) and Kun Faya Kun (Rockstar). I like how the singing is underplayed which makes it perfect for passive listening. If you listen closely, you'll find two voices in the chorus. Javed Ali's voice has been used again for the harmonies instead of backing vocals.

The album didn't turn out to be a disaster at least. As expected, I found a few shiners. So, here are my favourites from the album - Zara Si Dosti and Yaaram.

That is all I have for this album. I hope you found this review useful. If you do then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album or if you have any suggestions/feedback - in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!
