Music Review | Baahubali 2 - The Conclusion | M. M. Keeravani

For last year and half we all have been waiting to know why Katappa killed Baahubali. We'll get our answers this month when the second part of this epic franchise releases. Not just the movie, I enjoyed the music too. Dhivara was my favourite song from the first part. When the story is compelling, music automatically blends in it. That's what I am looking for in this album - a story to explore. This time around we have a hindi album too along with it's original telugu counterpart. Since, I don't know telugu I have interpreted the lyrics for the hindi album. That being said, I've listened to this album in both the languages.

Album Release Date: 5th April 2017

Jiyo Re Bahubali/Sahore Baahubali
Singers (H): Daler Mehndi, Sanjeev Chimmalgi, Ramya Behara
Lyrics (H): Manoj Muntashir
Singers (T): Daler Mehndi, M.M. Keeravaani, Mounima
Lyrics (T): K. Shivashakthi Datta,Dr. K. Ramakrishna
As soon as Daler Mehndi started the song, I got super excited to see who had sung it for the Telugu version. It was Daler Mehndi himself. However, it turned out to be a disappointment. He is not the lead singer of the song. The entire song is sung by the other singers. Being the title song of the movie based on a powerful character, I expected Daler Mehndi's powerful voice to be in the forefront. The solo portions by the singers are surprisingly mellow with violins playing in the background. The only energetic parts are the chorus and Daler Mehndi's.

Veeron Ke Veer Aa/Hamsa Naava
Singers (H): Aditi Paul, Deepu
Lyrics (H): Manoj Muntashir
Singers (T): Sony, Deepu
Lyrics (T): Chaithanya Prasad
The song title says it is about veer and I expect it to be a battle song where army is marching towards the enemy.
*bummer* The song is about the princess seductively calling out to her prince. The lyrics goes like this - "Oh ore raja, Veeron ke veer aa, Naino se tuna, Door hona. Main to hoon teri, Phir kaisi deri, Leja jahan tera thikana." Although it is a romantic song, this song has strong heavy beats to it which satisfies my initial expectation.

Soja Zara/Kanaa Nidurinchara
Singers (H): Madhushree
Lyrics (H): Manoj Muntashir
Singers (T): Sreenidhi, V. Srisoumya
Lyrics (T): M.M. Keeravaani
This song is about a mom asking his son i.e. Lord Krishna in this case (or at least the lyrics talk about that) to go to bed. This is such a mom-thing to do. :P This is a really sweet classical song with lots of flute in the music arrangements. The sargam by the background choir is harmonic. I am putting this on my repeat list, for days when I miss my mom.

Jay-Jaykara/Dandaalayyaa
Singers (H): Kailash Kher
Lyrics (H): Manoj Muntashir
Singers (T): Kaala Bhairava
Lyrics (T): M.M. Keeravaani
The song starts off with minimal music and I felt that if people are calling out for help to their king the music has to be larger than life to depict his power. This transition happened halfway through the song. Towards the end of the song I felt marching with confidence with towards solving a problem with hopes of a lot of people riding on me. While the hindi version has just Kailash Kher and harmonics of Khailesh Kher in chorus, the Telugu version has a choir doing that job.

Shivam/Oka Praanam
Singers (H): Kaala Bhairava
Lyrics (H): Manoj Muntashir
Singers (T): Kaala Bhairava
Lyrics (T): M.M. Keeravaani
This is the magnamous song that will conclude this epic story. I am guessing this song will feature either towards the end of the final fight or when Shivudu returns back to his kingdom wounded after winning the final fight. This song has overpowering music and that's what I'd suggest you listen to this song for, instead of lyrics.

The first part of the franchise had eight songs and the album received a bit of criticism for having too many and distracting songs that broke the flow of the movie. So this time around we have just five songs. All these five songs are impactful and seem to take the story forward. This time we also have a hindi album along with it's telugu counterpart. The hindi lyrics for the first to songs sounded amateurish and forced upon. Barring that, the rest of the songs were amazing in hindi as well. My favourites from this album are:
Soja Zara/Kanaa Nidurinchara
Jay-Jaykara/Dandaalayyaa

That is all I have for this album now. I hope you found this review useful. If you did then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!!
