Music Review | Azhar | Pritam, Amaal Mallik, DJ Chetas

We all know that Emraan Hashmi has a Midas presence. Any song he features in turns out to be a big hit. Most of the credit goes to Pritam for amazing music arrangements. The duo returns back after a long time; but with just one song in the album. Wait... What? The album is not composed by Pritam? Hmmm... Time to set the expectations two notches lower. From the looks of the trailer I saw I am presuming the album should be a mashup of Jannat + Once Upon A Time In Mumbai. Without further ado let's go ahead and listen this album

My review below will be unbiased by the fact the I am interested in just the one song by Pritam and will be biased towards good music. *fingers crossed*

Singers: Armaan Malik
Lyrics: Rashmi Virag

The chorus of the song goes like this "Bol do na zara, Dil mein jo hai chhipa, Main kisi se kahunga nahi". Without even getting into the the actual story of the movie this song successfully achieves to bring out the feel of infidelity. Armaan Malik's voice seems to be a little too young for a married man though.

Itni Si Baat Hain
Singers: Arijit Singh, Antara Mitra
Lyrics: Manoj Yadav

This is THE song of the album that brings back the Emraan-Pritam hit duo. Expectations were high. Truth be told - I am a bit disappointed. For the first time, I've felt Arijit Singh's playback was a distraction on the higher notes. There are only two saving graces in the song:
1. Lyrics - they are really beautiful and innocent
2. Antara Mitra brings out the innocence of a budding romance

Oye Oye
Singers: Aditi Singh Sharma, Armaan Malik
Lyrics: Anand Bakshi

Another remake of an old song *singh*
This is not the first time this song has be remixed. It was previously done in the movie Double Dhamaal and I think that was a better version than this. Maybe it has grown on me in four years. Coming back to this song, I am sorry I was not able to finish the entire song. My ears started bleeding. I understand it's time relevance to the movie but this one is heavily remixed.

Tu Hi Na Jaane
Singers: Sonu Nigam, Prakriti Kakar
Lyrics: Kumaar

This song, for the first time in the album, gave me the "Ah-ha" moment. This is the song that the album desperately required until now. One can never get tired of Sonu Nigam's singing. He is pure genius. The way he sings the chorus throughout the song, gave me goosebumps. Prakriti Kakar does a really great job in keeping up the mood of the song set by Sonu Nigam and picking up the last chorus. I just wish the song was a little low on the beats.

Jeetne Ke Liye
Singers: K.K.
Lyrics: Kumaar

Why is this song the last one of the album? K.K.'s songs are such powerful. I think K.K. is one of those gifted singer who can sing soulful Yaaron to powerful Mujhko Pehchaanlo to heart breaking Tadap Tadap. Emran and K.K. together having given a lot of hit songs. This is one of those songs from a typical Emraan Hashmi movie. This seems like a comeback song for the Azhar character in the movie. I talk a lot about chorus of a song in my reviews. I think a chorus makes or breaks the song. This one has a chorus that just hangs in there to keep the song intact

With Emraan Hashmi album you always have higher expectations, this one was no different. Failed to live up to some expectations but came back strong with last two songs.

TOP 3 PICKS:
1. Tu Hi Na Jaane
2. Jeetne Ke Liye
3. Itni Si Baat Hain

Consolation: NA

That is all I have for this album. I hope you liked this review. If you do then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album or if you have any suggestions/feedback - in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!
