Music Review | Kapoor & Sons | Amaal Mallik, Badshah, Arko Pravo Mukherjee, Tanishk Bagchi

Here are two movies that have no connection in terms of story yet are similar due to the sheer coincidence of being promoted at the same time. Ki & Ka and Kapoor & Sons
Similarity 1: The & in their title
Similarity 2: Badshah's music
Well, not as many as I thought but they are something. Or maybe, it is just because both of them have a party song that are original compositions of Badshah. Badshah is known for his hip hop tracks; you would not associate him with someone who could influence your choice for the entire album. It doesn't often happen that I eagerly wait for the entire album based on one song. The movie is less 2 weeks away and the entire album was just released yesterday.

My review below will be unbiased by Alia Bhatt's presence in the videos and will be biased towards good music. *fingers crossed*

Kar Gayi Chull
Singers: Badshah, Fazilpuria, Sukriti Kakar, Neha Kakkar
Lyrics: Badshah, Kumaar
Genre: Can't take my eyes of Alia Bhatt song

I fell in love with this song the moment I heard it and I didn't even know that this song was recreated from Badshah and Fazilpuria's original composition. This is basically a sophisticated version of the original track without all the crappy lyrics (fun to hear though). In terms of lyrics of this song, it is similar to Alia Bhatt's another party number Saturday Saturday which to my surprise is also inspired from another Badshah original. The female portions of the song fails miserably to auto tune.

Bolna
Singers: Arijit Singh, Asees Kaur
Lyrics: Dr. Devender Kafir
Genre: Arijit Singh staple melody

It just takes one guitar and Arijit Singh to create a melody. However, when you add violin, flute and keyboard along with equally soulful female counterpart, BOOM!!! Does the melody of the year award go to this one? Bolna Mahi Bolna. This song feels like two shy and humble introverts confessing their love for each other but each of them asking the other one to take the initiative.

Buddhu Sa Mann
Singers: Armaan Malik, Amaal Mallik
Lyrics: Abhiruchi Chand
Genre: Instant mood lifter

Life is full of crazy moments, unreasonable demands and wild dreams. Age does not play any role in such things. Social etiquette and moral obligations are for the outside world. You will always have those tiny wishes and guilty pleasures in your heart that will tinker your brain with "I wish I had done this at that point of time..". This song celebrates life and its reasons to celebrate no matter in what stage in life you are. Kudos to Abhiruchi Chand for penning this wonderful song.

Sathi Re
Singers: Arko Pravo Mukherjee
Lyrics: Manoj Muntashir
Genre: Anti Let-it-go song

This song instantly reminded me of Arko's previous two songs Maula from Jism 2 and Meherbani from The Shaukeens. This song begins with someone trying to stop the going one and you know where the mood is heading towards (sad, dukh, gham). Right at the midpoint, the song suddenly gives a hope of positive vibe with Na Na Na... But unfortunately returns back to the same loops as the first part with just change in lyrics. How I wish this song would've ended with a positive mood.

Lets Nacho
Singers: Badshah, Benny Dayal, Nucleya
Lyrics: Nucleya, Benny Dayal
Genre: Poor man's Lungi Dance

It is so amazing these days that you are listening to a Bollywood track and are constantly discovering references and inspirations of the original song. The original track is called Tamil Fever and was part of Sony Resound Project (No, I am not advertising Sony. Just providing reference). Well, not many north Indians appreciate Tamil music and lyrics unless it is brewed inside A.R. Rahman's studio. So now you have a Hindi song with beats by Nucleya, sung by Benny Dayal and rap by Badshah. The result, poor man's version of Lungi Dance.

Starting with high expectations on this album, I feel just a little disappointed with the last two tracks.

TOP 3 PICKS:
1. Kar Gayi Chull
2. Buddhu Sa Mann
3. Bolna

Consolation: NA

That is all I have for this album. I hope you liked this review. If you do then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album or if you have any suggestions/feedback - in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!
