Music Review | Badrinath Ki Dulhania | Amaal Mallik, Akhil Sachdeva, Tanishk Bagchi

This has to be addressed first before I begin the review. If you pick up an old song and use it in a movie, be upfront about it and call it a remake/remix instead of calling it a tribute and dignifying it because essentially you are cashing in the success of an already popular song ,thus reducing your efforts in composing a new song to complete the music album for the movie. Moreover, just stop using old songs in the movies. Imagine 20 years down the line, how will we explain popular songs of today to our kids when they dig deep and find out that our era had recycled songs from the previous generations.

Okay. Done with the rant.

Now let's move on the actual music review of the sequel to Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania Badrinath Ki Dulhania. This album is surprisingly small with just five songs, two of those being recycled ones.

Album Release Date: 14th February 2017

Aashiq Surrender Hua
Music Composer: Amaal Mallik
Singers: Amaal Mallik, Shreya Ghoshal
Lyrics: Shabbir Ahmed
The is a Mika song. From the first second itself, it screamed Mika all over the place. Unfortunately, all hopes got crushed when Mika Singh didn't show up during the entire duration of the song. I am left with a void space in my heart from this kind of dishonesty. You've been warned now, there is no Mika in the song. Skip it to save yourself!

Roke Na Ruke Naina
Music Composer: Amaal Mallik
Singers: Arijit Singh
Lyrics: Kumaar
After listening to this soulful song I am hoping for YouTube artists to create acoustic covers of this song. Is this a bad thing? I don't know. Maybe it is. This means that this song is missing something that I think some of the artists can achieve. As the title suggests, this is a sad song. The use of guitar strums in the chorus creates a lively feel which contradicts with the lyrics of the song. One of those Arijit Singh songs that will not end up in my repeat list.

Humsafar
Music Composer: Akhil Sachdeva
Singers: Akhil Sachdeva, Mansheel Gujral
Lyrics: Akhil Sachdeva
This song feels complete despite missing something. Most comments I've read online say that this song should've been sung by Atif Aslam instead. Akhil Sachdeva's voice does sound a bit like Atif I will not deny it. This song is composed, sung and written by the man himself. I'll give him a credit for that. I wish Mansheel Gujral had more lines to sing. I felt she was underutilised.

Badri Ki Dulhania (Title Track)
Music Composer: Tanishk Bagchi
Singers: Dev Negi, Neha Kakkar, Monali Thakur, IKKA
Lyrics: Shabbir Ahmed
I am confused, is this a Holi song or a sangeet song? It starts off with Holi ends with dulhaniya. This song has a very popular catchphrase from the vintage song "Chalat Musafir Moh Liya Re Pinjare Wali Muniya". Remove that phrase from the chorus and this is just an ordinary song. The only exciting part in the song is the build up for the chorus. It charged me up to get up and dance.

Tamma Tamma Again
Music Composer: Tanishk Bagchi, Bappi Lahiri
Singers: Bappi Lahiri, Anuradha Paudwal, Badshah
Lyrics: Indeevar, Badshah
First Humma Humma, now Tamma Tamma. I hope HE doesn't ruin a remake/tribute to Jumma Chumma if there's going to be one.Who's HE? Badshah. I enjoyed this song just as much as the original one or The Humma Song until Badshah spoilt it. The thing I really liked about the rest of the song was that Tanishk Bagchi chose to retain the original song as is along with the original singer Bappida and Anuradha Paudwal.

This album hopes to capitalize on the hype until the release of the movie. Don't expect this album to go long way. Nonetheless, here are my few favourites of the album:
