Music Review | Bareilly Ki Barfi | Tanishk Bagchi, Arko and Others

This seems like one of those movies where a couple of songs get really popular and after a few months we wouldn't even recall the name of the movie. I am looking forward to songs by Tanishk Bagchi and Arko specifically. So without further ado, let us get started!

Album Release Date: 3rd August 2017

Sweety Tera Dream
Music: Tanishk Bagchi
Singers: Dev Negi, Pawni Pandey, Shraddha Pandit
Lyrics: Shabbir Ahmed
This is a less entertaining gaanv-ka version of Drama Queen (Hasee Toh Phasee). The song features two guys and a girl but is sung by two female singers and one male singer. Thus, creating a disconnect.

Nazm Nazm
Music: Arko
Singers: Arko
Lyrics: Arko
The last time I loved a song composed, written and sung by Arko was Dariya (Baar Baar Dekho). In this one as well, I am really digging his singing. He starts his lines with an intense lift. However, I would have liked he would have experimented a bit with his music in this one.

Twist Kamariya
Music: Tanishk - Vayu
Singers: Harshdeep Kaur, Yasser Desai, Tanishk Bagchi; Altamash Faridi
Lyrics: Tanishk - Vayu
You know you are in for something different when the song start with dubstep. The female portions are way better than the male ones. Male portions a bit heavy on autotune. I would love to listen to a solo version of this with just Harshdeep Kaur.

Bairaagi
Music: Samira Koppikar
Singers: Arijit Singh, Samira Koppikar
Lyrics: Puneet Sharma
Arijit Singh is running out of songs to sing that some of his recent songs titles have taken words from previous albums. I can vouch for this that he was roped in just to have his name on the album to make is commercially sellable. There is another version of this song which is sung by the composer herself. This version is so spread out that there is hardly any opportunity for Arijit to showcase his singing.

Badass Babuaa
Music: Sameer Uddin
Singers: Abhishek Nailwal, Neha Bhasin, Sameer Uddin
Lyrics: Akshay Verma
This is a metaphor for one of those online trolls who are mashallah in the English. The only reason I really liked this song is that it is Hindi rap and EDM song. Being an EDM song, it still has those desi rustic beats.

Nazm Nazm ft. Ayushmann Khurana
Music: Arko
Singers: Ayushmann Khurana
Lyrics: Arko
This was the first thing I thought when I saw the video for the original version - why isn't Ayushmann singing this song? This version is the same song but different singer. If I were to just listen to song without the video, I would prefer Arko's singing. He has that certain depth in his vocals that Ayushmann failed to capture in this one.

Bairaagi
Music: Samira Koppikar
Singers: Samira Koppikar
Lyrics: Puneet Sharma
This is the song Bairaagi was supposed to be instead of Arijit's version. The musical arrangements are much better and beautifully constructed with this version. In case you are not aware of Samira Koppikar, she was the singer of the popular song Aaj Phir (Hate Story 3)

Nazm Nazm ft. Sumedha Karmahe
Music: Arko
Singers: Sumedha Karmahe
Lyrics: Arko
Same song but third singer. This is the female version of the song sung by Sumedha Karmahe. Sumedha was a participant on 2007 Sa Re Ga Ma Challenge and has given her voice for Toota Jo kabhi Taara (A Flying Jatt) along with Atif Aslam.

The album exceeded my expectations. It was a mixed bag of assorted chocolates. Most of them were good, others were not too bad either. So here are my favourites from the album:
Nazm Nazm
Twist Kamariya
Badass Babuaa
Bairaagi (Samira Koppikar Version)
Nazm Nazm ft. Sumedha Karmahe

That is all I have for this album now. I hope you found this review useful. If you did then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!!
