Music Mention | Wrong Side Raju (Gujarati) | Sachin-Jigar

By -
If you are a gujju  or understand gujarati language, you can also check out my video review for the music album of Wrong Side Raju here: If not, read on! The page is all yours. Welcome back to another Music Mention post. My last post in this series on  Sairat (Marathi)  was quite popular among my readers. This time around we'll be talking about a gujarati movie. I've picked this movie for a couple of reasons: 1. Sachin-Jigar composition 2. Arijit Singh 3. Produced by Abhishek Jain who has directed some of my favourite gujarati movies like  Kevi Rite Jaish (How Will I Go)  and  Bey Yaar (Yo Pal!) 4. Produced by Anurag Kashyap 5. I am a gujju :P Let me reiterate it again. This is a special case of my music reviews. It is more of a music mention than a review. I liked something and I want others to be aware of it too. (that sounds like the social media culture of this generation of kids :P) (Click on the song title to play it in YouTube) S...

Music Review | Padmaavat (formerly: Padmavati) | Sanjay Leela Bhansali

By -
[1] While Padma n is heroic, Padma avat is majestic. Padma n is driven by story, Padma avat is driven by story-telling. Padma n has music, Padma avat IS music. The bar is set high by the director-music composer himself - Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Can he outdo himself? Let us find out! Music Release Date: 21st January 2018 Listen to the album on: Saavn Gaana YouTube Ghoomar Singers:  Shreya Ghoshal , Swaroop Khan Lyricist:   A. M. Turaz,   Swaroop Khan This song is meta . It talks about the Marvadi  dance form of ghoomar while being a ghoomar itself . This song has been out for a while now. The song paces up appropriately. I started to swing my head to the beats and ended up listening to this song for 45 minutes straight. During those 45 minutes, I enjoyed Rajasthani folk,  Shreya Ghoshal's intoxicating voice,  watching Deepika dance,  dancing to the beats myself(reminded me of Navratri)  and Swaroop Khan.  It is not ofte...

Music Review | Padman | Amit Trivedi

By -
Akshay Kumar brings in good stories, Amit Trivedi brings in good music. When both of them come together, it is only fair to expect an album with great meaningful lyrics that supplements the movie. So let us get started! Music Release Date: 26th December 2017 Listen to the album on: Saavn Gaana YouTube Aaj Se Teri Singers:  Arijit Singh Lyricist:  Kausar Munir This song is about a sanskari joru ka ghulam. It is about a coy man confessing his love. The dholak throughout the song, gave an essence of something real and not orchestrated. Arijit Singh's voice is not too overpowering to hijack the song and blends in well with the music. The Pad Man Song Singers:  Mika Singh Lyricist:  Kausar Munir He is not the superhero we want, but he is the superhero we need. A real life superhero minus the melodrama and antics of reel life superhero. I like the fact that the lyrics remain realistic and didn't go overboard talking about his qualities. This song has o...

Music Review | Rock On 2 | Shankar Ehsaan Loy

By -
Back to back Shankar Ehsaan Loy reviews on this blog. Previous one being Mirzya . Despite this album being a sequel to one of the most loved albums, I am going to review it as any other album and not as a franchise. Looking forward to Shraddha Kapoor singing. Listen on Saavn: Listen to Rock-On-2-2016 on Saavn (Click on the song title to play it in YouTube) Jaago Singer: Farhan Akhtar, Siddharth Mahadevan Lyrics: Javed Akhtar Even though the song is about waking up and knowing your rights, that is not the purpose of this song in the album. This song doesn't want to 'wake you up'. Towards the end of the song if you started head banging (even if it means just in your mind) then the song was successful in making you feel of the kind of music you'd be encountering in this album. Farhan Akhtar is not a soft singer. He has a coarse and realistic voice and that's what I expected and got in this song. Same goes with the lyrics. They are neither melodic nor ...
