Music Review | Fukrey Returns | Jasleen Royal, Sharib-Toshi and others

[1]

Fukrey was a sleeper hit that was a treasure chest of music. I still listen to the title track, Ambarsariya and Jugaad from the prequel. Does that raise the expectation for the sequel album? Not really, because I usually do not have very high expectations from comedy movies. Also, Fukrey was composed by a single music composer (Ram Sampath) unlike its sequel which has a different composer for each song. So let us get started!

Movie Release Date: 24h November 2017

Mehbooba
Music Composer: Prem & Hardeep, Laxmikant-Pyarelal
Singers: Neha Kakkar, Yasser Desai, Raftaar, Mohammed Rafi
Lyrics: Kumaar, Anand Bakshi
Neha Kakkar killed it with her seductive voice. This song features stop-and-go beats, which if you don't know, made Zara Zara Touch Me (Race) the sexy song it was. So if you are wondering, as a guy, why this song gives you tingling feeling, now you know. Contrary to the popular notion, this song is not a remix of Mehbooba Mehbooba (Sholay) but a remix of O Meri Mehbooba (Dharam Veer).

Peh Gaya Khalara
Music Composer: Jasleen Royal
Singers: Divya Kumar, Jasleen Royal, Akasa Singh, Akanksha Bhandari
Lyrics: Aditya Sharma
Oh no! What a blunder! I heard the first seven seconds and this song was dead to me. Within that time frame if I replaced this song with Nachde Ne Saare (Baar Baar Dekho), you wouldn't realize. Even the male portions in the later parts of the song draws parallels from it. Male singers from both the songs, Siddharth Mahadevan and Divya Kumar, are known for high scale singing and that is exactly what they are used for in both the songs. Go ahead and watch the video for this song here (hint: even the videos are similar)

Tu Mera Bhai Nahi Hai
Music Composer: Sumeet Bellary
Singers: Gandharv Sachdev, Raftaar
Lyrics: Satya Khare, Raftaar
This is such an awesome bromance song. It also makes me wonder why is bromance is associated between male friends but catfight is associated between female friends. The video answers it. This is a funny song with very clean and friendly rap by Raftaar. This is may not be a musically amazing song, but I'd say enjoy it for friendship.

Ishq De Fanniyar - Male
Music Composer: Sharib-Toshi
Singers: Sharib-Toshi
Lyrics: Kumaar
THIS IS THE Ambarsariya of THIS movie. I love Ambarsariya and I can say the same for this song as well. Sharib-Toshi create their usual magic. I miss their compositions now that they haven't been getting as much opportunities to compose. I would have REALLY liked this song to be a little longer.

Ishq De Fanniyar - Female
Music Composer: Sharib-Toshi
Singers: Jyotica Tangri
Lyrics: Kumaar
This is the wannabe Ambarsariya. The producers of the movie might have wanted to replicate the success of that song with a female version but it failed. This doesn't take away from all the appreciation I showered on Jyotica Tangri in my music review of Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana. She shines with her singing with this song as well. However, this song simply remains in the shadow of the magic created by the Shabri brothers.

Fukrey Returns
Music Composer: Gulraj Singh
Singers: Siddharth Mahadevan, Shannon Donald, Gulraj Singh
Lyrics: Kumaar
There is something satisfying and mischievous about singing 'Fuk Fuk Fukre Fuk Fukrey, Fuk Fuk Fukre Fuk Fukrey. Bhaaga Bhoot Langoti Leke, Chaddar Taan Ke Tu Chhup Re'. Unfortunately, this song fails miserably to recreate that magic of the original title track.

Raina
Music Composer: Shree D, ishQ Bector (not a typo, that's how he chooses to write his first name)
Singers: Shree D
Lyrics: Shree D
This is a beautifully sung and written song. The song is a wish wanting to end all the problems and have a ray of hope. A quick look-up online and I realized that Shree D hasn't gotten many opportunities to showcase his talent. I'd love to hear more from him. A lot of people are going to confuse his singing for Atif Aslam just like they did for Akhil Sachdev for Humsafar (Badrinath Ki Dulhania)

Bura Na Mano Bholi Hai
Music Composer: Sumeet Bellary
Singers: Gandhharv Sachdeav & Shahid Mallya
Lyrics: Satya Khare, Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, Vipul Vig
This song is a half hearted effort to become the pseudo title track of the album with the catchphrase 'Fuk Fuk Fukre Fuk Fukrey'. This song neither captures the personality of the character Bholi nor does it capture the nonsense of the four guys.

That concludes this review. This album surpassed my expectations. Even with multiple music composers, there were gems in this album that aligned with the theme and mood of the movie and its characters. So here are my favourites:
Mehbooba
Tu Mera Bhai Nahi Hai
Ishq De Fanniyar - Male
Raina

That is all I have for this album now. I hope you found this review useful. If you did then feel free to share it. Let me know you favourite song of the album in the comments below. Until then, Ciao...!!
